YayMicro offers a 3rd party sales program for our top photographers. This is an exclusive program where we promote and sell images through a growing network of partners. This requires no extra work for the contributor, but can generate a steady stream of revenue.
This program was introduced in January 2009 and has since then grown into one of our most profitable sales channels. There are a lot of image agencies in the world, and many of them are having trouble getting the content they want. We use our experience from the industry to collect photographers that fits an agency's needs. YAY represents over 8,113 photographers from around the world and has an image collection of 6,000,804. This brings us into an exclusive range of agencies, because most of the world's image agencies have a rather small collection of their own - while they resell the content of other agencies.
These smaller agencies have until now been locked down for the average microstock contributor. We can help you get your collection to a range of different agencies around the world.
After a photographer gets admitted to the 3rd party sales program we will add his/hers images to our collections. These collections will then be sent to different agencies around the world. Images will usually not be added to competing agencies, but the same images can be delivered to agencies who operate in different regions/markets. This requires no extra work for the contributor, as we will make the collections and ship images ourselves.
This also means that adding your collection to our 3rd party program means that it will not be as easy to delete your images at a later stage. If you want to withdraw from the program, you must send us an email so that we can contact all agencies where your image has been sold and they will do their best to remove them. It is not recommendable that you join the program if you are considering going exclusive or withdrawing your images.
This program is a fresh way to earn more money from your images. Microstock is still a new business model and most of the revenue generated from images are still from traditional agencies where it is very hard for amateur and semi-professional photographers to distribute their images. These agencies often only distribute their own images, or images from other agencies where they can easily have a B2B partnership.
Revenues from the 3rd party program has so far been quite promising, even though we've only had one major partner. We are now adding more agencies from different markets, and plan to distribute through ten agencies before January 2011.
If you want to join the 3rd party program, you'll need to go through a selection process. Make a project folder with your 100 best images and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will then look at your portfolio and see if it could fit any of our partners. Usually selections are made on a quarterly basis, but this depends on the demands from our partners.
The only requirement to apply to the program is that you have a portfolio of over 500 images approved at YAY.
We will automatically add more images from your portfolio when you have beed admitted to the program. That means that on a quarterly basis we will look through your newest images and, if they are considered interesting, add them to the collection. It couldn't be easier.
Every quarter, when we have received sales statistics from the agencies, we will add the earnings directly to the contributors account at YAY. The contributor receives a generous 50 % of the revenue YAY receives. The reason we have to do this quarterly is that a lot of the agencies we work with have not yet stepped into the world of realtime data and online statistics. Images through the 3rd party program are, amongst other things, distributed on CDs and DVDs. Contributors who participate on such products will receive an equal share of the sales the product receives.
We can unfortunately not give comprehensive statistics on what images sold and for how much. Our partners work with different sales models and it is impossible to track exact sales statistics. We are working on adding more information about 3rd party earnings to the sales statistics page, but this work has not yet been finished.
If you manage or know an image agency that would be interested in a partnership with YAY Micro, please feel free to contact us. An email to email@example.com should do the trick. We are especially interested in agencies that have proven sales and good track record. We can provide you with a great collection of images, specially fitted for your needs.
